What We've Been Reading, 26th January 2016

A short and sweet post (and my inaugural on this new blog venture! I am so excited!!)

We have been enjoying reading a poem aloud from Robert Lewis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses each morning, and just read the last poem this morning as part of our Morning Time.

Although we have read plenty of poetry over the past years, this was the first time we read a single collection of poetry from cover to cover, and over the course of a couple of months. But all three of my children LOVED it. "Don't start the poetry reading without me!" was a common request from any stragglers in the crowd!

The illustrations, by Tasha Tudor, are beautiful. A little old fashioned, which perfectly fits the poems I think, and very easy for children to relate to.

The cherry on the cake for me though? We read our last poem this morning, and as we talked about our favorite pieces, The Little Guy, aged seven, suggested we just start again at the beginning tomorrow morning. Of course we can Little Guy, of course!

  2. Yep, we read 2 pages from this lovely book before each AAR lesson. After each poem we talk about the poem/illustrations. Sooo sweet.

    1. It really is lovely, isn't it?! (I recently bought a book about the illustrator Tasha Tudor's life and home, and it is really delightful. It is 'The Private World of Tasha Tudor, by Tasha Tudor and Richard Brown, and definitely worth keeping an eye out for!)
